Gerard Scanlan’s work is bent on depolarising society. His paintings invite the viewer to reconsider opinions they have already arrived at. Not because he thinks a particular idea is wrong, has an answer or criticism of a situation, but he strongly believes in the importance of keeping ideas fluid. An opinion can be perfectly valid for centuries or go out of date in minutes.
